Exec Exclusive: Karen De La Cruz

Hello, my name is Karen De La Cruz and I am Chapter Life Vice President. I am so happy in my role as CLVP because I get to plan ~cool~ things like Moms' Weekend, Parents' Weekend, Chapter Retreat, and Formal! My position entails all aspects of the "behind the scenes" of an event such as: contracts, communication with venue, logistics, etc. My first event was planning Moms' Weekend with the main activity being Painting with A Twist, and it was a huge success! My council and I work hard to plan weekly sisterhood events, put on choir performances at events, recognize outstanding members, and put on events for our sisters. My favorite thing about my position is seeing how our sisterhood is exhibited through the events that I plan.

Here's a little bit about me: for one, I am a proud Longhorn! I am from McAllen, Texas and I am currently a sophomore in the College of Liberal Arts. I am majoring in history and am also working on my teacher's certificate. I absolutely love working with children. I intern at Kealing Middle School and work at Magnolia Montessori for All. In my free time, I enjoy running, pilates, and listening to music. You can ask anyone and they can tell you that I am a little too obsessed with corgis and Smoothie King. Let’s not forget that I love pickles and pizza!

I love my home here at Alpha Xi because of all the friendships I have made, and the opportunities it has given me. I remember signing up the last day of recruitment, and it has one of the best decisions of my life. My favorite thing about Alpha Xi is my family; I love my big and two littles because they have brought me so much joy. I love that I can study, go on fun adventures, and attend concerts with my sisters. I am so thankful to be on the executive committee because I work with so many wonderful and intelligent girls. Overall, I am so incredibly blessed to be a part of an organization that has carved a legacy at the best university in the world.
