Alpha Xi Bid Day 2017

Hello Baby Xis!!! I’m Taylor Malatek, and I serve Alpha Xi Delta as the Education Vice President. I am basically the link between the new members and the rest of the chapter. My position’s nickname is “mom” because it’s my job to teach you the ins and outs of being a sorority woman, namely an Alpha Xi. I joined Alpha Xi as a sophomore in PC ’15. The Education VP when I was a new member was such a role model for me and became my first friend in the chapter outside of my pledge class. And now I am so excited to return the favor to a whole new pledge class of Baby Xis! Today is Bid Day, and I am so happy for you to begin your journey as a sorority woman. It may seem a little daunting to join a

Formal Recruitment: Preference

Hey there! My name is Georgia Pattee, and I am a sophomore from Dallas, Texas. I am studying to become a physician’s assistant with a specialty in neonatal care, and I am so ecstatic to see girls return for Preference Night. As Pref Night Day Chair, I am in charge of everything from the food you will eat, to the general structure of what we have planned for entertainment. This night holds a very special place in my heart because it was this exact night when I fell in love with Alpha Xi and the girls of the chapter. What should you expect? Well, unlike many of the other recruitment days, Preference Night is very formal. Everyone wears black, we sing songs that generations of sisters before us

Formal Recruitment: Sisterhood

Hi, I'm Danielle and I am the Sisterhood Day Chair. I'm originally from Ukraine but now live in Arlington, Texas. On Sisterhood Day our goal is to give you a snapshot of what it's like to be in our sisterhood and how close we are as a chapter, and give you a chance to get to know a little about each of us. We are beginning the day with a video that features some of the best moments of our sisterhood, followed by a "speed dating" activity. This exercise will give you the chance to have a fun, quick conversation with several different members, and will help all of us get to know each other better! With so many girls in a chapter, it seems like it could be a little difficult to get to know all

Formal Recruitment: Philanthropy

Hi! My name is Ava Gates and I will be a sophomore this fall. I am from Round Rock, Texas, and yes - in case you're wondering - there is actually a round rock that it was named after. This year I have the privilege to be the Philanthropy Day Chair! Philanthropy is such a huge part of what Alpha Xi Delta is, and it means so much to all of our members. Nationally, Alpha Xi Delta's philanthropy is Autism Speaks. Every year we raise money through events like Taco Xi, Football FrenXi and the Autism Speaks signature walk- awesome events that get the whole university and city involved and help to increase understanding and acceptance for autism! In addition to our fundraising efforts, members also

Formal Recruitment: Open House

Hi my name is Mel! I am from Dallas, Texas and am going to be a sophomore this year. I am also Alpha Xi's Open House Day Coordinator this year, which means I help design the colors, layout, drinks, and decorations for the first round of recruitment. This day signifies the beginning of one of the best weeks and helps kick off your journey to finding your future homes! During the day, you, as a PNM, will be welcomed into each sorority house here at Texas and meet one or more of the active members in each house. You and the active will have brief conversations to get to know each other and talk about hometowns, majors, summers, upcoming year, and other interests. These first two days feel quick

"To the Girls Going Through Recruitment" by Cristina Rebello, former Alpha Xi President

Hi! My name is Cristina Rebello, and I graduated from UT in May. I am currently living in New York City and working at Lazard Asset Management. It’s crazy that I’m not going to be in Austin for recruitment this year, but I could not be more excited for all the PNMs who are about to start their amazing journey! When I first stood in line outside of the Alpha Xi house as a PNM, I had no idea what would be waiting for me inside. That house and the amazing sisterhood inside became my college family and home away from home. Alpha Xi Delta has given me years of constant sleepovers, countless hours of service to the organization which taught me more than I could’ve imagined, the opportunity to be c

"Living in 'Xi' House" by Vanessa Stewart

Hi! My name is Vanessa Stewart, and I am starting my junior year at UT majoring in communication sciences and disorders. I am originally from a tiny town called Three Rivers, TX. Never heard of it? Most people haven’t so that’s okay! It is about an hour south of San Antonio. Coming from a small town with a population of less than 2,000 people, adjusting to Austin and UT was quite a challenge for me. Joining Alpha Xi Delta eased this transition because everyone was so accepting and welcoming. I immediately felt comfortable in the house and around the girls, but it wasn’t until my sophomore year living in the Alpha Xi house - or Xi House as we like to call it - when I truly understood the phra

Gotta Be, Wanna Be, Alpha Xi

This is Texas Alpha Xi Delta, and we have been waiting for you all summer!! From sisterhood retreats to supporting Autism Speaks, we cannot wait to share with you what it means to be an Alpha Xi. Here is a quick look at what it is like to be a part of our sisterhood.

Alpha Xis Overseas: Elizabeth Eichman

Ciao! My name is Elizabeth Eichman, and I am junior honors in advanced nutritional sciences major. I recently returned from a study abroad program in Italy, where I studied nutrition and ate my way through Sicily! The food there was absolutely amazing and so fresh! There was a farmers' market nearby that was open every morning, and boy did I take advantage of everything it had to offer! I enjoy cooking so much, and I believe the quality of the fresh produce in Italy made everything I cooked taste ten times better. Other than cooking and eating tons of great meals, I also enjoyed about a thousand pounds of gelato and cannolis (no shame)! The six weeks I spent abroad were jam packed amazing a
