Exec Exclusive: Taylor Malatek

Hi everyone! My name is Taylor Malatek, and I’m the Education Vice President for Texas Alpha Xi Delta. I absolutely love serving my chapter through this unique and vital role. As Education VP I handle any and all things related to the new member pledge class during their first semester. From Bid Day to Initiation, I help build a strong support system for our newest additions, and since many are freshman, I also help ease their transition into both sorority life and college in general. I’m in charge of planning the New Member Retreat, which is designed to encourage bonding within the pledge class, as well as events that foster relationships with older members. I also host a meeting every week exclusively for the new members where they learn our chapter’s history and learn how to excel at UT in Greek life. By being the guide for our newest sisters throughout new member orientation, I get to be a role model and friend to those who join our chapter.

A little bit about me: I’m a junior Economics major, and I plan on attending law school in the fall of 2018. Between my course work, exec duties, and LSAT prep...I have no life. I’m from the historic town of Gonzales, a textbook Texas small town. Needless to say, coming to Austin was quite the lifestyle change, but I found my home in AXiD. I’m a lover of all Mexican food, and you can most often find me at Trudy’s on 30th. My favorite show to binge watch is Parks & Recreation because who doesn’t wanna be like Leslie Knope? My best friend is probably my dog Steve. He’s a border terrier and pug mix, and he loves going for short walks around West campus.

Alpha Xi Delta and all it has done for me are very meaningful to my life. Although being on executive committee can at times be stressful, I appreciate the way this chapter has shaped me and everything I have learned through my position. As a new member, I looked up to the Education VP, Jill Malone, since she was such a vital part of my integration into the chapter. Now, I am so grateful I get to be that person for the new member class, and I get to grow with them through their journey into our sisterhood.
